Tania Figueroa

Mixed Media artist based in Clearwater, Florida

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Everything began at age 4 with my grandmother's lipstick, my hands and the hallway of dad's house in Puerto Rico. After that, a good cleaning session taught me that I can definitely use the hallway's walls as a display for my art but never used them as my substrate.

I consider myself a forever mixed media art explorer and student that constantly experiments with collages and layers of different mediums.  In most of my artworks, crude and incomplete lines can be found, as well as raw areas where canvas, paper or wood are exposed, all this is created by seeking to achieve the exaltation of the imperfect and simplicity.

The whole creative process it is for me a cathartic and cleansing process that at the same time keeps me refueling my creativity.  Using different gray-scales and values and the smoothness and roughness of the materials allows me to visually expose the different aspects and situations of life: the passionate, the introspective, the conflictive, the meditative, the empathetic, the philosophical and the spiritual.  It is at the same time that all of them are part of my inherent need for knowledge and therefore my work is a constant research, always morphing and recreating itself.
